Savannah cats are a hybrid breed of cat that originated from the crossbreeding of African Serval wild cats with domestic cats of the Siamese, Bengalese, and Egyptian breeds.
This crossbreeding was first carried out by a cat breeder named Jude Frank, who tried to breed Bengal cats with Serval, giving birth to a new breed called Savannah.
Well as a result of the experiment, Savanah became one of the unique cats of Hybrid blood. But not only that, it turns out Savanah has another uniqueness.
Where their uniqueness is that he has been crowned the longest cat breed by Guinness World Records. Where the cat that broke the world record has a length of 44 cm.
Savannah Cat Breed
Savannah cats are cats resulting from crossing several breeds with Serval wild cats to eventually create a new breed.
And the new breed can be grouped into several types. Here’s the list:
1. Savannah F1
Savannah F1 is a breed of cat that still has a 50 percent Serval bloodline. Usually, this Savannah is produced when you first try crossbreeding between Serval and other breeds of cats, such as Bengal.
2. Savannah F2
If you try to crossbreed F1 with other cats such as Siamese for example, then the resulting breed will only have 25% Serval blood. This cat will be called the Savannah F2.
3. Savannah F3
Savannah F3 is the next form of Savannah, which is the result of breeding Savannah F2 with cats of other breeds other than the Serval breed. Because later Serval blood levels in F3 cats are only 12.5%.
This is because Savannah F3 has been bred several times and become a hybrid cat.
4. Savannah F4
The Savannah F4 cat breed is the result of F3 cats that have been cross-bred again with others other than Serval, so this causes the blood of Serval breeds to remain at 6.25% only.
This type of cat is the most hybrid of the F3. Especially if the parents of the crossbreeds are different.
5. Savannah F5
Finally, there is the F5 Savannah breed. This is the last Savannah breed that only has 3.15% Serval blood. Because from each F1 to F4 child is crossed with other than the Serval race so as to finally create a Savannah with 3.15% Serval genes only.
Savannah Cat Food
Savannah Cat Food is fresh meat and never give factory cat food that you usually give to other cat breeds.
Why is that? Because Savannah cats are descended from Serval wild cats who hunt daily for fresh meat.
This behavior ultimately makes its breed have the same nature, which likes meat. Even if you want to keep it, besides providing fresh meat daily. You need to provide a wide enough area with grass underneath so that the cat is comfortable when you keep it.
As a cat produced from wild cats, the instinct to live like a forest is also still inherent.
It’s no secret, to get a breed of a jungle cat with a gentle nature and low hunting instinct. At least it must spend up to about 7 generations.
So if this Savannah is still the first breed, it is only appropriate if it still has the strong instincts of its mother, so the food must be fresh meat.
